The German soprano, Barbara Emilia Schedel, studied first piano and music education in Freiburg, before studying singing in Amsterdam with Professor Margreet Honig and in Würzburg, where she also was in the training class of Professor Charlotte Lehmann and graduated in 2006. She attended master-classes with Richard Miller (USA), Klesie Kelly (Cologne) and Rudolf Jansen and received scholarships (Deutscher Bühnenverein, Händelakademie), awards and prizes at national and international competitions, including, inter alia, the Lieder Competition "Armin Knab" in Würzburg (1st Prize), Federal Singing Competition in Berlin (opera), Würzburg Mozart Festival Competition (special) and the 10,000 Euro Music Prize of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg.
Already during her studies in Würzburg, Barbara Schedel was engaged from the 2004-2005 season in the ensemble of the Jungen Oper der Staatsoper Stuttgart, where she was heard in various productions from Haydn/Die reisende Ceres to Svoboda/Erwin, and at the Stuttgarter Staatsoper (2007-2008) in the soprano roles of Terpsichore/Street Singer in Offenbach's Gaîté parisienne.
In addition to various engagements in the lyric coloratura range (Susanna, Norina, Ännchen, Anna), etc. at the Kammeroper München, Barbara Schedel has already been invited by various opera houses in the area of contemporary music, including as a guest at the Theater Fürth, in co-operation with the Bayerischer Rundfunk for the operas Aus der Welt by U. Strübin and Ganna by H. Kraus-Hübner at the side of Klaus Maria Brandauer/Helmut Berger as well as for the much-acclaimed production of Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank by G. Frid at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, at the National Opera Krakow and at the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
In her activity as a Lieder and concert singer, Barbara Schedel has performed with conductors as Helmuth Rilling, Peter Schreier, Wolfram Christ, Siegfried Köhler and orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, the Münchner Bachsolisten, the Kurpfälzische Kammerorchester, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the Staatskapelle Dresden. She has appeared throughout Europe and South America and has been documented by numerous recordings on the radio (Bayern 4 Klassik, Deutschlandradio Kultur, SWR, MDR) and television (SAT 3,ORF 1, BR, SWR), most recently, with works by W.A. Mozart and Strauss at the Salzburg Festival Hall. The label Brilliant Classics recently released the complete L.v. Beethoven Lieder with Barbara Emilia Schedel. |
