The Italian bass, choral conductor and pianist, Luca Scaccabarozzi, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatorio "G. Verdi" in Milano with top marks and honors under the guidance of Silvia Rumi. He has previously studied with Paolo Bordoni, Alberto Baldrighi, Massimiliano Baggio, Monica Rurale and Cristina Carini, with whom he has brilliantly graduated from the same Conservatorio. At the same time he graduated in philosophy at the Università Statale in Milano with full marks and honors, discussing a thesis on the music of Robert Schumann. In 2009 he obtained a diploma in piano at the Firenze Musical Academy under the guidance of Pier Narciso Masi. He has participated in courses and master-classes, both piano and chamber music, with Aldo Ciccolini, Pier Narciso Masi, Ilya Poletaev, Karl Leister and Michele Sherepan. As a pianist he has won several prizes in national and international competitions including the 1st prize at the “Riviera Etrusca" national music competition, the 2nd Prize at the "Città di Albenga" international competition in the category "Excellence four hands" and the 2nd place at the “Cervo” international music competition; he has also performed for several concerts both as a soloist and as a duo with the violinist Lorenzo Rovati.
Passionate about voice and chorus, he attended singing and vocal courses with the soprano Dan Shen and with the English baritone and conductor Colin Baldy, and in which he also played the role of accompanist pianist; he also studied Lichteneberg vocal technique with Monica Scifo and attended Baroque singing courses with Marco Scavazza, Lia Serafini and Sara Mingardo. He attended the three years at the Milano Choral Academy, graduating in choral conducting under the guidance of masters such as Marco Berrini, Lorenzo Donati, Peter Neumann, Giorgio Mazzuccato, Luigi Marzola and Diego Fratelli, with whom he studied Renaissance polyphony at the Scuola Civica in Milan. He also participated in choral conducting courses and master-classes held by Marco Berrini, Nicole Corti, Luigi Marzola, Gary Graden, Bo Holten, Ragnar Rasmussen, Javier Busto and Peter Broadbent. He also obtained the Master of Music degree in choral conducting at the “Scuola Superiore per Direttori di Coro” in Arezzo. He received the award for best conductor at the "Città di Fermo" national choral competition and at the “Città di Lainate” national choral competition He also obtained the second prize at the first national competition for choir conductors "Le mani in suono" in Arezzo.
Luca Scaccabarozzi is the conductor of several choirs and ensembles, including the Ensemble vocale Mousikè, with whom he obtained the 1st prize at the "Riviera Etrusca” national music competition, the "F. Gaffurio" national choral competition and the “Lago Maggiore” national choral competition. He obtained the 2nd absolute place (1st prize not awarded) at the "Città di Fermo" national choral competition in which he won the award for best conductor. In November 2013, he also won the selections for the appointment as new artistic director of the "Torino Vocalensemble" that He conducted until 2017; with this group he entered the Grand Prix of the "Seghizzi" international choral competition of Gorizia in 2015, winning the gold band and obtaining the award for best Italian choir, the award for the best contemporary program and the 2nd place in the category "romantic music". He also conducts the “Regina del Rosario” choir in Arcore (MB), with which he is ranked 2nd at the "D. Maffeis" choral national competition in Gazzaniga (BG) and is a master collaborator of the professional choir "Ars Cantica" in Milano. He was choir-master in Igor Stravinsky's Le Noces at the Stresa Festival in August 2015 and in J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria in Monreale Festival of Ancient Music in 2016.
As a singer Luca Scaccabarozzi has worked for years in the professional choir "Ars Cantica" conducted by Marco Berrini and was selected to be part of the Coro Giovanile Italiano in 2012-2014 conducted by Lorenzo Donati and Dario Tabbia with whom he has won several first prizes at the International Florilège Vocal Competition of Tours in France. Furthermore, since 2013 she has performed concerts as a bass in the vocal ensemble UT conducted by Lorenzo Donati, in the vocal trio and quartet "La Rosa dei venti" and in the men's quintet "Aletheia consort", specialized in performing early music. He is singing also with the professional choirs “Il canto di Orfeo”, LaBarocca and “Gesualdo Consort of Gesualdo” under the direction of Gianluca Capuano, Ruben Jais and Marco Berrini.
Luca Scaccabarozzi teaches piano, choral conducting and choral singing in several music schools, choral conducting at the Milano Choral Academy and he also teaches in seminars and courses. He is called as a jury at national and international piano and choral competitions. |
