The Spanish mezzo-soprano, Consuelo Sañudo, studied in the USA, in England and in Germany. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Brandeis University. She had Musicology studies in Cambridge, studies in Philosophy and Mathematics at St. John's College in Santa Fe, voice with Elaine Pierce and Jessica Cash in London, with Detlef Zywietz in Essen, and master-classes in performance practice with Marius van Altena, Cristina Miatello and Sequentia.
Consuelo Sañudo has lived as a freelance singer in Cologne since 1990. She has performed and recorded with Sequentia, Weser Renaissance, Las Huelgas Ensemble, Bonnen, Manfred Niehaus Pocket Opera and is a member of the Ensemble Palla. She gives Lieder recitals, both conventional and unconventional. With Bonnen she has performed in Germany, Belgium, Chile and at the Alternativa Festival in Moskow. Her stage work includes the title role in the opera Arianna by Alexander Goehr at the German premiere in Konstanz in 1996; Speranza in L'Orfeo by Monteverdi, a role in Liebe, Tod, Kaiserwalzer, a play for two singers with music by Strauss, Gustav Mahler and Offenbach in Wiesbaden (1998); a role in Leda by Manfred Niehaus 1998.
At present Consuelo Sañudo is exploring Italian opera repertoire she has missed along the way (Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Arrigo Boito), rehearsing a duet program in Wiesbaden for a tour in 1999 (Monteverdi, Dvorak, Rossini, Tosti, Strauss, Puccini). In addition, she has written a script for a film she will direct based on Lieder by Johannes Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Strauss and Gustav Mahler.
Consuelo Sañudo has performed oratorios and other sacred works in Germany and the USA. She has sung at the Moscow Alternativa and at the Frank Zappa Festival (Brussels Radio). She performs with the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble, Madison Bach Musicians and Cecilia Singers. In 2009 she sang the premiere of David Dies' opera Hills like White Elephants. In 2010, she gave a series of solo recitals in Madison, Wisconsin. |
