The Uruguayan tenor, Santiago Sánchez, was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) and raised in Alicante (Spain). He studied piano at the Conservatory of Torrevieja (Alicante) and went on with his singing studies at the Conservatory of Ontinyent, Valencia. After his studies in Spain, he moved in 2014 to Salzburg (Austria) to continue his studies of Bachelor Gesang in the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Currently he completes a Master on Lied and Oratorio with Proessor Mario Diaz and Professor Pauliina Tukiainen.
In January 2017, Santiago Sánchez made his debut as Lenski in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in a Mozarteum production. In March 2017, he sang an apprenticeship in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürmberg at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (musical direction: Daniele Gatti/stage director: Harry Kupfer). In July 2017, he made his debut as Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the Opernbühne Maxlrain (Germany). In October 2017, he sang the role of the Heated Player in a new production of Prokofiev's The Gambler conducted by Karoline Gruber and Simone Young at the Wiener Staatsoper. In December 2017, he sang at the Mozarteum the role Oronte in George Frideric Handel's Alcina. He has also sung, among other roles, W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Teatro Ristori in Verona, Soliman in W.A. Mozart's Zaide at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl.
Since the 2020-2021 season, Santiago Sánchez is a permanent ensemble member at Theater Bonn, in Germany. In the 2021-2022 season at Theater Bonn, he performed the role of Albert in the world premiere of R. Liebermann's Leonore 40/45 (October 2021), Graf Elemer in R. Strauss' Arabelle (October-November 2021), the title role of in G. Verdi's Don Carlo (December 2021-April 2022), Alfred in J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus (February-June 2022), Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. Previous engagements include a half-staged production of Charles Gounod's Faust at Theater Bonn, Alfredo in La Traviata at the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza under the direction of Pier Giorgio Morandi and Leo Nucci and the Lampionaio in Manon Lescaut at Oper Frankfurt under the direction of Lorenzo Viotti and Alex Ollé. |
