The Canadian soprano, Anne Saint-Denis, obtained her diploma from the University of Montreal. She then aqttended the Atelier lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal, where she earned the Diana Soviero Prize in 1996. A winner of the Début series in 1995 and the OSM Competition, she is the recipient of several awards, including the Grand Prix CIBC 1995, the Grand Prize Dvorak at the Czech and Slovak Music Competition in Montreal, and the First Prize of the l'Orchestre Symphonique de ville Mont-Royal. She was also Fellow of the Ministère des Affaires culturelles and the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.
Multi-talented artist, Anne Saint-Denis is much appreciated for her rich voice and his musical sensibility as for his generous and natural presence on stage. Active in different kinds of concerts, she has performed in recital (Pavillon des Arts de Ste-Adèle, Maison Trestler, MBA de Mtl, Radio-Canada), was soloist for choirs (Choeur Polyphonique de Mtl, Polymnie, the Disciples de Massenet and the Choeur de Laval) and for chamber music ensembles, including dont I Musici de Montréal, L’Orchestre des Jeunes de Montréal, l’Orchestre de la Société de Guitares de Montréal et le Quatuor Figaro, with whom she recorded a CD "Serenade" on ATMA Classique label. She has also recorded with the pianist Olivier Godin a CD of songs and cycles of Théodore Dubois (published in 2009 by disques XXI-21). For the same company, she participated in the complete recording of songs of Henri Duparc with baritone Marc Boucher and pianist Olivier Godin, as well as a CD devoted to Bach, to be published at a later stage.
Among Anne Saint-Denis’ operatic roles are Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni at Loches and Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte at Opéra-Tréteaux in Orleans, France. In 1997 she was Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème at the Opéra de Québec, after having been Mimi on the tour with Jeunesses Musicales du Canada and at the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal. At the l'Opéra de Montréal she sang the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw by Benjamin Britten and the Foreign Woman in The Consul by Menotti. In June 1999 she was Wanda in La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein by Offenbach at the French Opera in New York. Suring 2000, she created at the Coups de Théâtre the role of La Chatte d’Espagne in the children's opera L’Arche d’Isabelle Panneton et Anne Hébert. In December 2002 she sang the Mother in Hansel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck with the Metropolitan Orchestra (co-production with the Théâtre sans Fil).
With Rigoletto Productions Anne Saint-Denis created three productions of operettas: "Duos d’opérettes… et autres délices" (Tour CACUM 2000-2001), "Quand l’Opéra bouffe" (March 2002) and two one-act operetta by J. Offenbach (2004). She is also part of the concert series dedicated to the voice "2,3,4…musique!" (2003). At the Opéra de Montréal she sang Anna in Nabucco by Verdi in November 2001, and Lehar's Merry Widow in 2004. In February 2007, she sang the role of Ellen in Lakmé by L. Delibes at the same opera house.
Since 2006 Anne Saint-Denis is part of the Set Viriditas, a trio of female singers accompanied by period instruments, with whom she has given several concerts of old Christmas songs for the theme of Nativité. Recently she was soloist for l'Orchestre de la Société de Guitares de Montréal, performing works of J. Turina and
H.Villa-Lobos. |
