Studio Vocale Karlsruhe (= SVK) was created in 1980 by Werner Pfaff. Already after few years the ambitious chamber choir won some of the most important national and international choir competitions, including: among other things in Gorizia (total winner 1987), Tolosa (1st winner 1988), Preisträger (1st winner 1989), and since then continuously has continued to develop. In 1999 the choir achieved 2nd place in Tolosa the in the re-created category for vocal ensemble, which permits also professional ensembles. In 2003 SVK became winners (1st & 2nd Prize) of the International Competition "Habaneras y Polifonia" in Torrevieja, Spain.
Due to these successes the choir did not only acquire itself and receives regularly invitations to guest concerts in Europe and Festivals all over the world, including: St. Petersburg, Seoul, Riga, San Sebastian, Buenos Aires, Tromsö and Manila. In 1999 and 2001 SVK was guest choir of the Millennium Festival in Valencia; 2002 followed it with invitation to special concerts in the context of 49th Choir Competition in Ejea, Spain.
In June 2000 SVK made a very successful guest appearance at the opening concert of Schwarzwald Musik Festival. In October 2001 SVK appeared at the Prinzregententheater Munich, on the occasion of the establishment of the Celibidache-donation, with J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232), with which the solo parts were also performed by choir members. Likewise in 2000 took place a much-considered performance of the Messiah with Ludwig Güttler and the Virtuosi Saxoniae at Rheingau Musik Festival. Since 1983 SVK arranges regularly a programme for the respective topic every two years taking place European Culture Day in Karlsruhe.
In 1991 appeared first CD production: English Choir Music after 1900. 1995 followed with an admission of Misa Criolla by A. Ramirez. In 1997-2001 SVK performed in co-operation with the SWR and the Renner Ensemble Regensburg, the complete Robert Schumann choral works. Volume 1-4 of the four CD's appeared with ebs records. |
