The Swiss tenor, Hans-Jürg Rickenbacher, studied at the Musik-Akademie Basel. After the Swiss Operastudio he won several awards, attended various masterclasses and studied with Nicolai Gedda in Stockholm and Margreet Honig in Amsterdam.
Hans-Jürg Rickenbacher's repertory ranges from Monteverdi to contemporary music. He has specialized in singing the Evangelists in J.S. Bach's oratorios, various roles in W.A. Mozart's and George Frideric Handel’s operas and within the last few years he has focused his attention on many different Art Song programs.
Hans-Jürg Rickenbacher has performed in many European countries, in the United States, in Israel and Argentina (Teatro Colón). Among the conductors he has worked with are, e. g. Giovanni Antonini (Il Giardino Armonico), Michel Corboz, Diego Fasolis, Howard Griffiths, Martin Haselböck (Wiener Akademie), Heinz Holliger, Hans-Martin Linde, Jost Meier, Shao-Chia Lü (Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie), Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Thomas Rösner (L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande).
Hans-Jürg Rickenbacher's has been vocal teacher for ten years at the Musik-Akademie Basel and in september 2010 he will open a new class at the University of Lucerne. He is president of EVTA.CH, the Swiss section of the European Voice Teachers Association. |
