The Italian bass-baritoned, Lorenzo Regazzo, holds degrees in singing, piano, choral music, and choral conducting, and has studied voice with Sesto Bruscantini and Regina Resnik.
Lorenzo Regazzo made his operatic debut in 1994 in Rossini's L'inganno felice at the Pesaro Festival.
His voice can be categorised as bass, bass-baritone or basso cantante. He is especially well known for interpreting Baroque, Classical, and bel canto repertoire. Among the qualities frequently noted by the critical press are his virtuosic coloratura technique, sumptuous tone, and vivid stage presence. Engagements have taken him to major opera and concert venues in Berlin, Monaco, Zürich, Bilbao, London, Madrid, Paris and opera houses throughout Italy, elsewhere in Europe, as well as in Japan (Tokyo) and the USA. As a renowned interpreter of W.A. Mozart and Rossini, he has been a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
Lorenzo Regazzo collaborated with such important conductors as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Colin Davis, Daniele Gatti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Jesús López-Cobos, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Simon Rattle, and Marcello Viotti. Acclaimed in the “bel canto” and “coloratura” repertoire, he is a world class Baroque singer noted for expertise in Antonio Vivaldi and George Frideric Handel, a repertoire he had performed and recorded with such Baroque music specialists as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Paul Goodwin, Emmanuelle Haïm, René Jacobs, Andrea Marcon, Claudio Scimone, and Jean-Christophe Spinosi.
In the past seasons Lorenzo Regazzo performed L’Italiana in Algeri (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Staatsoper Munich, Tokyo, Sao Carlos Lisboa, Comunale di Treviso, Fenice di Venezia and in concert with the Berliner Philarmoniker), La Cenerentola (Covent Garden, Rossini Opera Festival, Teatro Bellini di Catania, Festival de La Coruña, Bilbao, Opéra Garnier, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris), W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Salzburg Festival, Opéra de Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Comunale di Bologna, Zurich Opernhaus, Valencia and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris), W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (Brussels, Paris, Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Ravenna Festival, London Barbican Center, Teatro Real de Madrid, Filarmonico di Verona). He recently performed: L’Elisir d’Amore at the Wiener Staatsoper; L’Italiana in Algeri in Vichy; W.A. Mozart's Così fan Tutte at the Opéra National de Paris, at the Wiener Staatsoper and again in Treviso and Ferrara where he signed also the direction; W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte (Aon Alfonso and director) at the Settimane Musicale in Vicenza.
Lorenzo Regazzo’s future engagements include, among others: Il Turco in Italia in Treviso and Ferrara; Don Pasquale in Barcelona and in Las Palmas.
His discography includes, among others, A. Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso (with Jean-Christophe Spinosi); W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (with René Jacobs), which won the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording in 2005; the solo recitals "Lorenzo Regazzo chante Venise" and "Vivaldi: Arie per Basso" (Naïve; with Rinaldo Alessandrini) for both of which he won the “Orphée d’or” as Best Male Singer. He can be heard on the new W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni release for Harmonia Mundi (Leporello; conducted by René Jacobs) and in Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto, L’Inganno Felice. and L’Italiana in Algeri under Alberto Zedda. A new solo album, an all-G.F. Handel recital, once again conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini, has just been released by Naïve. |
