The Roder Jongenskoor (= RJK; The Roden Boys’ Choir is a choir in the British tradition, with its repertoire being Anglican choir music in its broadest sense. The choir’s conductor is Rintje te Wies. The RJK is widely praised for its consistent British choir style, not only in relation to size and voice occupation, but also in the strong attention to voice quality of the individual boys and young men.
The RJK has chosen in all its aspects for a musical direction that in British choirs leads to their famous high level of music making. In past years the boys have cooperated on many large productions for choir and orchestra, such as performances of J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, St Nicolas Cantata and Spring Symphony, as well as Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3 which prescribes a boys’ choir. Boy soloists regularly participate in W.A. Mozart's Die Zäuberflöte, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem en Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. The choir regularly travels abroad. At the beginning of 2002, the RJK was named cultural ambassador of the European Union in the Netherlands by the Federation of European Choirs. |
