Jochanan Pniel (née Tarlas) was born in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to Israel with his family when he was 7. His father was a doctor and amateur singer. When they came to Israel, his father completed his income as a neurology doctor by giving singing recitals. Jochanan studied piano and singing. Later he studied at the Music Teachers Academy as a freelance student.
In the early 1960’s he joined the Rinat Choir and was its member for about 15 years. He also participated in plays at Habima Theatre as a choir singer and was also given solo parts. He participated in various musical setting, singing mainly Lieder by Schubert, Wolf, Mozart and L.v. Beethoven with his beautiful baritone voice. His only appearance at the Original Abu-Gosh Music Festival was as a member of the Vocal Ensemble.
During his later years he gave classical music listening courses with his wife Tova at their home in Petah-Tikva. |
