The German-born mezzo-soprano, Sybille Philippin (born: Sybille Specht), grew up in Denmark on Starnberger See (Lake Starnberg), where she received her first piano lessons. She later studied in Bad Bergzabern (first violin), Buxtehude and Oldenburg (graduating at the Alten Gymnasium, first singing lessons with Elisabeth Lotthammer). She then studied at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden with Professor Helga Köhler-Wellner, finishing the State exam "with distinction" in 1999. She also attended master-classes with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf in Zumikon, Carlo Bergonzi at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Elio Battaglia in Berlin and Grace Bumbry in Salzburg. She was finalist at the Ferruccio Tagliavini Singing Competition in Deutschlandsberg, Bertelsmann Neue Stimmen Competition in Gütersloh, Viotti-Valsesia Competition in Piemont and I Cestelli Singing Competition in Dresden. Studies at the School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana, USA with Professor Costanza Cuccaro (funded by a DAAD scholarship and a scholarship from the Indiana School of Music).
Sybille Philippin perform often roles of the lyric mezzo-soprano range, revealing the great interpretative and vocal agility required in Mozart and Strauss, George Frideric Handel and Rossini roles. She is a highly-esteemed actress-singer, excels in her representation of roles as Melisande (Debussy), Cherubino, Dorabella, Sextus, Rosina, Dulcinée (Massenet), Composer and Eliza, among others.
Sybille Philippin worked at the Dortmund Theater. From 2001 to 2007 she was engaged at the Bremen Theater under the Directorship of Professor Dr. Klaus Pierwoß. From 2007 to 2010 she was engaged at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. Since September 2010, she works as freelance, appearing both at home and abroad. Furthermore, she is active as a concert singer. She also teaches at Höchst in Odenwald, where she lives with her husband and two children. |
