The Finnish soprano, Hedvig Paulig, had played the violin for many years, before she started taking singing lessons at the age of 15. She also danced ballet, played tennis and squash and took up fencing when studying political science at the University of Helsinki. After ontaining her Bachelor of Political Science degree in 2001, she was accepted at the Helsinki Conservatoire of Music and graduated in 2003. Just two days before Christmas 2002 she got the best Christmas present ever; a letter saying she got through the entrance exams at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She obtained there her DipRAM in 2014. She contin ued her studies in Finland and obtained her Diploma and Master of Music from the Sibelius Academy’s Opera Department (Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemia) in 2008. She won Third prize in the Merikanto-competition, Finland (2009) and First prize in the international Sibelius Singing Competition, Finland (2011).
Hedvig Paulig has preformed at the regional opera houses in Finland starring as Hanna Glawari in the Merry Widow, Violetta in La Traviata, First Lady in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute, among others. She has sung at many festivals, including the prestigious Helsinki Festival, Urkuyö ja aaria- festival in Espoo and the Julita-Festival in Sweden. Her extensive repertoire has led to engagements with many prominent Finnish Orchestras, including the Helsinki Philharmonic, Lapland Chamber Orchestra and Avanti! Chamber Orchestra. Hedvig has given Lieder recitals in Finland, Sweden, England, Australia and Germany. She made her debute at the Finnish National Opera in 2013 as Frasquita in Carmen and Clorinda in La Cenerentola. In 2015 she performed Sibelius songs in England, Norway and Israel. She currently lives in Helsinki, Finland. |
