The Spanish baritone, choral conductor, poet and writer, Xavier Pagès i Torroja, Xavier Pagès i Torroja, began at the age of 8 his studies of music, forming part of the Escolania de la Catedral de Barcelona. At 10 years he enrolled at the Escolania de Montserrat, where he was an outstanding soloists under thre guidance of P. Ireneu Segarra. He studied singing with the teachers Xavier Torra and Laura Sarti.
Xavier Pagès is a versatile artist, perfoming music from the Renaissance to the 21st century. He has sung in the Capella de Santa Ma del Mar, directed by Manet Valdivieso, Mireia Barrera and Lluis Vilámajo, collaborated with the La Capella Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall; since 2001) in concerts throughout Europe; collaborated with Al Ayre Español directed by Eduardo López Banzo, and has been a member of the group Exaudi, directed by Joan Grimalt. He is a member of the La Trulla de Bozes group, with which he has performed more than 100 concerts throughout the Spanish and European states, and won the First Prize of Early Music Brussels and the First Prize of the Van Vlandereen Early Music Competition in Antwerp.
Xavier Pagès has performed as a soloist with the Orquestra de Cambra Catalana, Orquestra de L'Empordà and Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, under the direction of Jordi Casas, Albert Argudo, Joan Pàmies, Josep Ma Sauret and Jordi Mora, among others.
Xavier Pagès also dedicates part of his time to choral direction, with more than twenty years of experience, and composition. Currently he is Director of Cor de Cambra Diaula and Coral Ars Nova de Martorell (Catalonia), Cor A Tempo de Barcelona and L'Orfeó Manresà. He is founder of the early music group Cum Cantico, dedicated to the research and interpretation of Catalan Baroque music. His discography includes a dozen titles.
Xavier Pagès also write weekly poems to the digital newspaper El Matí Digital. He published his first book, El temps de les engrunes (The time of the crumbs); now he is about to publish the second book with new unpublished poems. |
