The American soprano, Jeanne Ommerlé, is the recipient of awards from the Sullivan Foundation.
After her studies Jeanne Ommerlé, began a successful career, especially at the Boston Opera House. In the esarly 1980's, she was recently by The Boston Globe for her 'world class virtuosity" following a performance with Boston's Handel and Haydn Society. She has received rave reviews for her performances in Der Roserthavalier and La Bohème with the Opera Company of Boston, and scored another success with the Dallas Opera in Menotti's The Medium with the composer as stage director. She has made numerous other appearances with opera companies and orchestras throughout the USA. In 1987 she sang Norina in Don Paquale; in 1988 Dirce in Medea by Cherubini (with Josephine Barstow in the title role) and Polly Peachum in Beggar's Opera; in 1989 Sophie in Rosenkavalier; in 1990 Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. In 1988-1989 she was heard with Pepsi Co Summerfare in the Peter Sellars production of W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (which was then repeated with this ensemble in Boston, Paris and Vienna) as Susanna, whom she also took over in 1992 in Barcelona. In 1990 she was guest of the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels as Despina in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte; in 1991 at the Dallas Opera as Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel; in the same year at the Atlanta Opera as Page Oscar in Verdi's Ballo in maschera. Her Gilbert and Sullivan background has included singing Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance and Josephine in HMS Pinafore. In addition to the technical perfection of her coloratura soprano, she was admired for her imaginative, temperamental playing on stage.
Jeanne Ommerlé appeared also in the concert hall in an extensive repertoire. She sang as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra (Washington), Louisville Symphony, and New Hampshire Symphony. She has appeared at the Boston Early Music Festival, the Cincinnati May Festival and the Monadnock Music Festival (New Hampshire), where she performed for eight summers.
