The Spanish baritone, Josep-Ramon Olivé, obtained his Bachelor of Music degrees in Choral Conducting (2010) and Singing (2012) from the ESMuC (Higher School of Music of Catalonia). He went on to study at Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London with Professor Rudolf Piernay, completing both a Singing Masters in 2014 and the Opera Course in 2016. He has taken vocal master-classes with Graham Johnson, Eric Halfvarson, Carlos Mena, Edith Wiens, Gerald Finley, Malcolm Martineau, Kurt Widmer, Josep Bros, Luigi Alva and Teresa Berganza, amongst others. Winner of the Guildhall School’s prestigious Gold Medal 2017, he was awarded First Prize, as well as the Audience Prize, at the 2015 Handel Singing Competition; Second Prize at the 2013 International Singing Competition ‘Symphonies d’Autômne’ (Mâcon); Second Prize at the 2013 International Singing Competition ‘Germans Pla’ (Balaguer) and Second Prize at the 2011 Concurso Permanente of Juventudes Musicales de España. In 2015 he was nominated for ‘Oxford Lieder Young Artist’, together with pianist Ben-San Lau.
Josep-Ramon Olivé collaborates regularly with orchestras such as Le Concert des Nations (Director: Jordi Savall), Les Arts Florissants (Director: William Christie), Hespèrion XXI (Director: Jordi Savall), Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and London Handel Orchestra; at important venues including Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Barcelona L’Auditori, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, Philharmonie de Paris, Kontzerthaus Wien and the Wigmore Hall and the Barbican in London; and under the baton of great conductors as Jordi Savall, William Christie, Kazushi Ono, Johan Duijck, Laurence Cummings, John Axelrod, Victor Pablo Pérez and Sigiswald Kuijken.
Operatic roles include Il Conte in W.A. Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Tarquinius in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Orfeo in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Lesbo in George Frideric Handel’s Agrippina, Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, Frank in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Pantalone in Wolf-Ferrari’s Le donne curiose, Thésée in Martinů’s Ariane and Uberto in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona.
His Oratorio repertoire includes Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae Solenne de Confessore, Orff Carmina Burana, G.F. Handel's Messiah and Alexander Balus and J.S. Bach's B minor Mass (BWV 232), Magnificat (BWV 243), various Cantatas and Weinachts-Oratorium (BWV 248). As a Lieder performer he has presented J. Brahms' Die schöne Magelone, Gustav Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe, Ravel Histoires Naturelles, G. Fauré's La bonne chanson and Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin amongst others.
Over the last years Josep-Ramon Olivé has recorded for the Alia-Vox, Columna Música, Phaedra, Discmedi, Solfa and Musièpoca labels. During the 2015-2016 season he was resident artist both at the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera and the Ateneu - CMEM of Banyoles and on the 2017-2018 he was selected for Le Jardin des Voix academy directed by William Christie and Paul Agnew.
Upcoming engagements in 2018 include the role of Mercutio in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, debut in the Festival de Peralada with the roles of Il Mago and Polifemo in G.F. Handel's Rinaldo and Acis & Galatea, the opening recital of LIFE Victoria Festival in Barcelona with pianist Malcolm Martineau and his operatic debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Josep-Ramon Olivé has also been nominated ECHO Rising Star for the 2018-2019 season. |
