The English baritone, Philip O'Reilly, has been based in Ireland since the early 1990's. He has proved a useful contributor to Irish musical life, featuring widely in oratorio and also in opera. Appearances as a recitalist have been rarer. In December 1972, he sang J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta Choir conducted by Kenneth Montgomery; in June 1989 and June-July 1990, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem with the same ensemble conducted by Nigel Carver. In November 1995, he sang at the National Concert Hall Johannes Brahms' German Requiem with the Dun Laoghaire Choral Society conducted by Mark Armstrong. In October 1997, he sang together with the pianist Graham Barber in a recital organised by the Royal Dublin Society Lieder by Schubert, Gustav Mahler and Gerald Finzi. In 2001, he sang several J.S. Bach's Cantatas conducted by Blánaid Murphy in the frame of Orchestra of St Cecilia: Bach Cantata Project. On Good Friday 2015 (April 3), he sang the role of Jesus in J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and RTÉ Philharmonic Choir conducted Robert Howarth.
