The Belgian mezzo-soprano, Angélique Noldus, studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège and at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, while participating in some master-classes at La Monnaie. After her graduation in opera and in concert, she became a member of the Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam.
Angélique Noldus made her professional debut with the Dritte Dame in W.A. Mozart’s Zauberflöte at La Monnaie followed by Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerpen. Following her debut at La Monnaie she was invited to sing a number of roles, including the world première of Benoît Mernier's Frühlings Erwachen, in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Blumenmädchen and Zweite Knappe in Parsifal, Dorothée in Massenet's Cendrillon, Stephano in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette and recently a very successful Bradamante in George Frideric Handel's Alcina. At the Vlaamse Opera she sang various roles including Amore/Alinda in Cavalli’s Il Giasone and Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff. She was invited to sing with several companies in the USA where she performed Dritte Dame at Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and covered Annio in La Clemenza di Tito for the Metropolitan Opera New York.
Angélique Noldus' repertoire encompasses early music through contemporary music : she recently debuted at the Opera National de Paris in the role of Siebel in C. Gounod's Faust, performed Annio in La Clemenza di Tito in Lisbon, Cherubino at the Opera of Nancy. She sang various roles at the Opera of Lyon, including Mercédès in Georges Bizet's Carmen, the Fox in Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen and Nicklausse in Offenbach's Contes d'Hoffmann. The Opéra national du Rhin (Strasbourg) invited her to sing Der Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos, Thea in Frühlings Erwachen, Meg Page in Falstaff and Krista in Vec Makropulos-Janacek . She also sang Mélisse/Charite in Lully’s Cadmus et Hermione with Le Poème Harmonique at the Grand Théâtre d'Aix-en-Provence, Théâtre de Caen and Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg.
On the concert stage in Europe and in Asia, Angélique Noldus performed in the Paris' Cité de la Musique, Brussels' Palais des Beaux Arts, the Philharmonique in Liege, Dijon's Auditorium, Shanghai's World Exhibition Hall, Spain's Palau Musica Catalana in Valencia, Kölner Philharmonie, Theater an der Wien and the Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw.
Angélique Noldus worked with many conductors including Louis Langrée, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Christophe Rousset, René Jacobs, Alain Altinoglu, Vincent Dumestre, Laurence Equilbey, Hartmut Haenchen, Patrick Davin, Guy van Waas, Pierre Cao, Theodor Guschlbauer and stage directors such as André Engel, Pierre Audi, Olivier Py, Robert Carsen, Laurent Pelly, Romeo Castellucci. She appeared with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Les Talens Lyriques, Les Agrémens, Orchestre National de Belgique, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and various other ensembles. Her concert performances include W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Krönungsmesse and Vesperae solennes de Confessore, L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, G.F. Handel's Messiah, Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder und Neue Liebeslieder, Felix Mendelssohn's Sommernachtstraum, Berlioz' Enfance du Christ, and Haydn's Missa in tempore belli and Scena di Berenice.
Angélique Noldus recently made her debut with the Dutch National Opera at the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg as Bradamante in G.F. Handel's Alcina, staged by DNO director Pierre Audi and conducted by Christophe Rousset. She was immediately invited to sing this role again in the Teatro Real Madrid and the Semper Oper Dresden.
Angélique Noldus has recorded roles in Wagner's Parsifal, Mernier's Frühlings Erwachen, Cavalli's Giasone, G.F. Handel's Alcina and W.A. Mozart's Requiem (with the Ambronay's Festival). |
