Elena Moșuc (Soprano)

Born: January 18, 1964 - Iași, Romania

The Romanian-Swiss soprano, Elena Moșuc [Mosuc], was educated at the George Enescu Conservatory in Iași and, before completing her studies, won several international competitions, for example the international Music Competition organized by ARD Television in Munich in 1990. She received many prestigious prizes (including the Siola d’Oro and the Premio Zenatello di Verona) and in 2005 the Romanian President bestowed upon her the title Officer of the Arts, one of the highest honours awarded to a musician in Romania. In 2009 she made her doctor’s degree in musicology with The Theme of Madness in the Italian opera of the first half of the 19th century with Summa cum Laude. She was named Woman of the Year in Romania in 2009 and in 2010 she became an honorary citizen of her native city. In 2015 she was the recipient of the "Marele Premiu" (‘Grand Prize’) in Romania for her outstanding international career as an opera singer. In 2019 she received two nominations for Opus Klassik as Best Singer of the year and Best Album for her CD Verdi Heroines (Solo Musica) and she won the international prestigious Opera Awards "Opera Star" OSCAR DELLA LIRICA as the best Soprano.

Since the beginning of her career, Elena Moșuc has been closely connected with the Zürich Opera House, where she has appeared in various roles and débuted as the Queen of the Night in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (a part she has sung over 250 times). Signature roles also include Gilda, Violetta, Lucia, Mimì, Micaela, Marguerite, Donna Anna in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Konstanze in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Zerbinetta, Luisa Miller, Medora in Il Corsaro, Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta, Stella, Norma, Nedda, Alice Ford, Lucrezia Borgia, Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, Desdemona, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Lakmé and Giselda in I Lombardi.

Guest appearances have taken her to all the important opera houses and festivals in Europe (including Barcelona, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Paris, London, Milan, Rome, Venice, Brussels, Amsterdam, Bilbao and to the Verona Arena) as well as to the USA (including the New York Metropolitan and Dallas Operas), Muscat, Japan, China, Taiwan and South Korea. Elena Moșuc frequently gives concerts and appears in opera soirées in her native country. She has established a reputation as one of the world’s most versatile and expressive sopranos.

Elena Moșuc has worked with eminent conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christoph von Dohnányi, Nello Santi, Bruno Campanella, Maurizio Arena, Carlo Franci, Fabio Luisi, Lorin Maazel, Marcello Viotti, Bertrand de Billy, Gustavo Dudamel, Philippe Jordan, Evelino Pidò, Jordi Bernàcer, Valéry Gergiev a.o.and stage directors such as Franco Zeffirelli, Liliana Cavani, Ruth Berghaus, Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Stefan Herheim, Mario Martone, Gilbert Deflo, Renata Scotto, David McVicar, Lorenzo Mariani, Graham Vick, Martin Kusej, Davide Livermore a.o.

In addition to her operatic performances, Elena Moșuc also lends her talent to crossover concerts and she tours with her project Resonance. A testimonial of her passion for film music is the CD "L’amore è poesia" (released in 2016 by Solo Musica / Sony ) with music by Flavio Motalla especially composed for her voice and recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in Abbey Road Studios. In 2020, she realised her first big, joint crossover project together with the Romanian pop star FUEGO Paul Surugiu and released the hit "Stiu ca vei regreta" (in english: "I Iknow you will regret it") with two different video clips. Elena Moșuc's discography includes solo albums, as "A Portrait" (a 3-CD box featuring Au jardin de mon cœur, Mozart Portrait and Notre amour), Donizetti Heroines (Sony Classical), Stabat Mater by Giovanni Gualberto Brunetti (a world première recording), With Compliments (G.F. Handel arias with the Zürcher Kammerorchester), Schön ist die Welt by Franz Lehár (awarded the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 conducted by Valery Gergiev, the complete recording of Puccini’s La Rondine 2017 and the orchestral song cycle Tragédie d'amour ( 2018 ) by swiss composer Émile Jaques-Dalcroze. Elena Moșuc also appears in numerous DVD opera productions, as La Bohème, Rigoletto, Ariadne auf Naxos, The Magic Flute and Lucia di Lammermoor. She also appeared in the BBC film The Genius of Mozart and in two FIFA live Galas. In april 2018 was published her new CD Verdi Heroines by Solo Musica / Sony.
