The young Ukrainian baritone, Igor Mostovoi, began his training very early at the Music School for Children and Youth in Mariupol, Ukraine. He focused first on mastering the vocal art, through popular song. As a child, he participated in many competitions and festivals in Russia and Ukraine. In 2007, at the age of 14, he turned to the classical repertoire, and immediately won the 1st Prize for Russian Melody at the Hopes of Romansiada Competition in Moscow. He then studied at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montréal, where he brilliantly obtained a Master's degree in opera and vocal interpretation (2015-2017). He received support from the Cercle Richard Wagner in 2018 and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Encouragement Award in 2015. He is Laureate of the First Opera Prize of the Marmande International Singing Competition 2021.
Igor made his stage debut there as Nano in the Canadian premiere of John Musto's Volpone. He then performed, again with Opera Mc Gill, Achilla in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Theseus in Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's dream, Adonis in John Blow's Venus and Adonis, Friedrich Bhaer and Mr. Dashwood in Mark Adamo's Little Women, Belcore in L' Elisir d'amore, Melisso in G.F. Handel's Alcina, Dr Falke in Die Fledermaus, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, and Father in the North American premiere of James Garner's East o'the Sun, West o'the Moon. He ang Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in Weimar and Count Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in Toronto. He also performs in concerts and recitals. In 2017, he joined the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin and notably sang the title role in the production of Howard Moody's Sindbad (April 2018). In 2018-2019 season, at the Opéra National du Rhin, he sang the roles of Fiorello and an Officer in Il barbiere di Siviglia (September-October 2018), Giacomo Cenci in Alberto Ginastera's Beatrix Cenci (March-April 2019) and Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (June 2019). Recently, he sang Count Schopp in Le Roi Carotte by Offenbach at the Opéra National de Lyon, the bass-baritone part in the Berliner Requiem by K. Weil at the Philarmonie de Paris, the roles of the Count, of Don Giovanni in Rubacuori d'after Mozart at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the vocal cover of the title role in G.F. Handel's Saul at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris during the Premiere. He currently lives in Montréal, Quebéc, Canada. |
