The American soprano, Suzi More, studied Voice throughout High School and College with Dolores Cassinelli. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Music Composition from Rutgers University, Livingston College (1971-1976); and pursued studies Voice and Opera at the Academy of Vocal Arts, in Philadelphia (1979-1980), and New York University. She obtained her Masters degree in Education from Jersey City State College (1985-1992); and and additional studies in Kodal'y at New York University (1992). Her voice teachers and coaches include Franco Rossi-Roudett, Terrence Shook, Helen Fenstermacher, Chloë Owen, Daniel Ferro, Marlena Malas, Dorothea Discala, Frank Valentino, Deborah Taylor, and Dolores Cassinelli. She has appeared in master-classes with Elly Ameling, Jerome Hines, Judith Raskin, and Daltin Baldwin.
Suzi More has performed extensively throughout the USA and abroad. She has been soloist and has appeared in numerous operatic roles performing with the Festival Chorus of New Jersey, Masterwork Chorus and Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Singers, Plainfield Symphony, Ars Musica Antiqua, the Garden State Chorale, State Repertory Opera, Jersey Lyric Opera, Choral Baccarelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Academy of Vocal Arts Opera Theatre (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), Montclair Chamber Orchestra, and numerous others. In 1989, she was the award-winning collaborator along with composer Loretta Jankowski, of a song cycle entitled Phoenix, published internationally by Boosey & Hawkes, in December 1993. The work, featuring Suzi More, was presented at both the Los Angeles, California (1989), and Little Rock, Arkansas, national Association of Teacher's of singing (NATS) conventions. She is a recipient of several Lila Wallace/Reader's Digest Incentive Grants, for performance and research. She is a member of the NATS, New Jersey, New York City and National chapters. Also, a composer of jazz, folk and children's songs.
Suzi More worked as voice teacher, chorus director and Orff specialist at the Newark School of the Arts for over 30 years (September 1984-January 2014). As well as has taught over 20 years in the New Jersey Public Schools as music specialist.
Since June 2014, Suzi More is recitalist lecturer in both East and West Coasts. Presently finishing the 10 year project to produce the musical works of Max Kowalski, 1882-1956. By Summer 2016, the last song cycle was finished. That is 17 song cycles consisting of 90 songs. They celebrated with a CD release party in the Metropolitan, this means all of Kowalski's lost works have been recorded exactly 60 years after his death in June 1956. In addition, almost all of the originally published works have been reprinted by Dr. Walter Foster of Recital Publications, Huntsville, Texas and he has begun to make first editions of the manuscripts which numbered over another 18 songs cycles with over 100 songs. In 2020, she retired
from her activities as a voice teacher. She currently lives in Cottonwood, Arizona. |
