The Amewricamn soprano, Kathleen Ferriss Monson, holds a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, a Performance Certificate from Lamont School of Music and a Bachelors of Music from the University of Montana.
Kathleen Monson's credits include Sophia in Der Rosenkavalier; Cunegonda in Leonard Bernstein's Candide; Adele in Die Fledermaus, Sour Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, and Barbarina in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, which won National Opera Association Award for Best Opera Production. Featured in several New York based companies, she has been seen with Utopia Opera in Susannah, Martha Cardona Theater in Tosca alongside Met Opera veterans, Stella Zamblis and Jason Steams. La Traviata under the direction of Francisco Casanova and Maestro Brian Holman. Stabat Mater with Vocal Productions NYC, and Chelsea Opera singing in the concerts, Purely Puccini and Quinntessentially Yours II.
On the concert stage Kathleen Monson is an avid chorister, having performed under the baton of Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Bramwell Tovey with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's production of Gustav Holst's Planets. She has been featured as a soloist for Manhattan School of Music Chamber Chorale in J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232) and Arthur Honegger's King David, under the direction of Kent Tritle. She was also an active member of the New York based, Florilegium Chamber Choir under the baton of Dr. Ronnie Oliver. She currently resides as the soprano section leader with the Canceler Choir at St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Equally at home on the operatic and musical theater stage, Kathleen Monson enjoyed an extensive tour as an actor and director for Missoula Children’s Theater 2010-2011 seasons, covering much of Canada and the western USA. Performing the role of Witless the Woodsman in the musical theater production Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Other musical theater credits include My Fair Lady, Mame, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Seussical, Nuncrackers, Oliver and A Christmas Carol.
On the international stage, Kathleen Monson has been seen with JK Music Entertainment in their recent musical showcase in Singapore. In 2015, she was invited as a guest artist for Horizon's 50 VIP event at Resorts World Genting, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2013-2014, she joined Classic Lyric Arts for two seasons having the opportunity to perform concerts in western Italy including Novafeltria, Penabilli, and Sant'agata Feltria.
Kathleen Monson's 2015 season featured debuts of Michaëla in Georges Bizet's Carmen with Golden Rose Opera. She worked alongside maestro Alex Wen and director Helen Van Golden. She continued with the title role of Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro with Connecticut Lyric Opera, Greve In Chianti, and was featured as a guest artist with St. Stephen Music in concerts, The Sound of Art, and With Hope and Thanksgiving. In 2016, she began with the role of Alma Hicks at the Wilmette Center for the Arts, production of The Music Man; Suor Genovieffa in Opera West’s production of Suor Angelica, and joined Utah Lyric Opera as a studio artist singing the role of Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus. She finished her season debuting as Nicemis, in her first ever Gilbert and Sullivan's production of Thespis with the Savoyaires in Evanston Illinois.
Kathleen Monson continues to delight crowds with her clear tone and confident stage presence. In 2017, she began her season by joining Wilmette Center for Arts as Agatha in their production of Guys and Dolls. She will continue the season this spring joining the Princeton Festival, in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio, under the direction of Richard Tang Yuk. Returning to Chicago in the fall she will be making her debut with Main Street Opera joining the ensemble of Cavalleria Rusticana. |
