The Bolivian contralto, Angélica Monje Torres, studied at Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, California (Class of 2004). She studied Classical Singing at Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, Netherlands (Class of 2008); Voice - Contralto at Musik -Akademie der Stadt Basel in Basel, Switzerland (September 2009-2013). She studied at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland (2008-2013) - Early Music Singing with Rosa Domínguez, specializing in Baroque Opera under the guidance of Alessandro de Marchi, finalizing her studies as the 5th prize winner of the 2012 version of the Antonio Cesti Baroque Opera Competition in Innsbruck, Austria.
Prize winner of the DOMS Stiftung, the Lyra Foundation Young Musician Award and the Rapp Stiftung Scholarship, Angélica Monje was most recently member of the Monteverdi Academy for young singers of Rene Jacobs in Royaumont as Nutrice in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Member of the CIMA Academy of Jordi Savall and the European Baroque Academy of Ambronay of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in the rol of Messaggera (Silvia) brought to diverse theaters in Europe such as the Bozar in Brussels, Opera de St. Etienne, Theater of Bourg en Bresse, Opera de Reims, Opera de Vichy and others.
In concert Angélica Monje e has sung under conductors including Rinaldo Alessandrini, René Jacobs, Christina Pluhar, Andrea Marcon, Jordi Savall, Dominique Vellard, Hervè Niquet, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Diego Fasolis, Daniela Dolci, Raphael Immoos with ensembles such as L'Arpeggiata, the Venice Baroque Orchestra (Director: Andrea Marcon), Ensemble Gilles Binchois, Il Profondo, La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, Musica Fiorita (Director: Daniela Dolci), Le Concert des Nations (Director: Jordi Savall), Cappella Mediterranea (Director: Leonardo García-Alarcón) and Florilegium among others; Festival appearances at the Bachfest Leipzig, Oude Muziek of Utrecht, Misiones de Chiquitos, Le festival de l'Abbaye de Saint-Michel en Thiérache, Bremen Musik-Festival, Festival de Musica Antigua de Bogotá, Festival de Namur, among others. She has been a member of Coro della Radio Svizzera (Director: Diego Fasolis), La Capella Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall), and has sung contralto at Theater Basel since 2012.
Angélica Monje is devoted to the promotion and discovery of Latin-american & Spanish Baroque repertoire from La Plata, Chiquitos and Moxos, Spain and Portugal in concerts and world premiere CD and DVD recordings of the Award winning series of Bolivian Baroque Vol. 2 and 3 (Florilegium), Carmina Latina (Cappella Mediterranea), Cantadas al Santisimo Sacramento (Il Profondo) and Iyai Jesucristo (Musica Temprana).
Some of her highlights were the world Premiere of Lulier's Oratorio di Natale under Rinaldo Alessandrini, as the Alto Soloist, in the programme of the concert series of the ''Freunde Alte Musik Basel'': the roles of Ecureuil and Bergere in the March production of L'enfant et les sortileges of Theater Basel, the newly discovered 'Salmi Concertati' by Sances and Bertali performed for the first time at the Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival and the World Premiere of Christina Pluhar's Pasticcio Orfeo Chaman' set in Spanish by Colombian Poet Hugo Chaparro with the brilliant L'Arpeggiata and Theater Company ''Mapa Teatro'' lead by Heidi and Rolf Abderhalen marking her debut at the National Theater Julio-Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia. |
