Emmanuelle Monier (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: April 10, 1982 - Paris, France

The French mezzo-soprano, Emmanuelle Monier, had studied the violin for 10 years at the Conservatoire Paris 9° (1999-2006), before she began in 2006 singing studies with Anne-Marie Rodde, Anne Constantin then Gerda Hartman and Chantal Mathias at the CNSM -Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique- in Paris, from which she graduated in June 2009.

Since 2005 Emmanuelle Monier has performed on the biggest French and European stages such as the Opéra Royal de Wallonie (Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen), Grand Théâtre d'Aix-en-Provence, Salle Pleyel in Paris (Dernier Jour d’un condamné, with Roberto Alagna), Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Opéra de Massy, Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne (La Traviata, Rigoletto), Salle Favart Opéra Comique (Les Mousquetaires au Couvent) ...

Emmanuelle Monier's repertoire begins in the Baroque era (Venus, Second Woman, work under the direction of Martin Gester or Jérôme Corréas), continues with W.A. Mozart roles such as Zerlina (2009), Dorabella (2010), Elvira (2011), passes by the 19th century (Mercedes in Georges Bizet's Carmen in 2012, Giovanna in Rigoletto by Verdi in 2015 at the Opera of Clermont-Ferrand), to flourish in contemporary music, in particular within the ensemble Les Cris de Paris (since 2005), directed by Geoffroy Jourdain, with whom she created several works (Cachafaz by Oscar Strasnoy on a libretto by Copi, at the Théâtre de Cornouailles in Quimper, Sarah K. by Julien Malaussena at the Abbaye de Royaumont in 2012, Ludus de Morte regis by Mauro Lanza at Venice Biennale 2013, Le Livre de Job by Michel Tabachnik at Paris Cité de la Musique). She also began in 2014 a collaboration with the ensemble of Maxime Pascal Le Balcon.

This eclectic journey is also marked by the work with prestigious and talented directors: Benoist Brumer, Vincent Vittoz, Pierre Thirion-Vallet (Giovanna in Rigoletto), Benjamin Lazar, Stéphane Braunschweig (W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni), Olivier Py (Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites), Jérôme Deschamps (Blanche in Les Mousquetaires at the Convent) and Nadine Duffaut. These encounters developed her s taste for theatrical performance in the service of lyrical interpretation. With Le Balcon, Emmanuelle participated in the performance of Jakob Lenz by Wolgang Rihm and Vespro della Beata Vergine by Claudio Monteverdi. She will reprise her role in Jakob Lenz in 2019 at the Le Balcon Festival.
