The American tenor, Evan Mitchell, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from Luther College (Class of 2014). He was a section leader and member of the Luther College Nordic Choir from 2011 to 2014 and was a four-time finalist for the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competitions from 2010 to 2014. In 2014, he was the receipient of the Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Opera Prize and was a Graduate Excellence Award recipient in 2014-2015. He obtained his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Class of 2016). Roles performed during his studies there include: Belcore (cover) in l’elisir d’amore; Notary in Gianni Schicchi; and Almaviva (cover) in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro; John Brooke in Little Women; Gianni Schicchi, Buoso’s Ghost; and l’Opéra de Montréal’s Six Révolutions for the Opera America Conference.
Evan Mitchell has performed both classical and pop music throughout the USA and Canada as a recitalist, lead singer, chorister, accompanist, and director. He can be seen regionally in art song and operatic stages. Most recently, he has performed as: Jeremy in Maelstrom and Rodolfo in La Bohème with Opera Bend’s 2017 season; Opera Fest, Cascadia Concert Opera; and Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte with the University of Oregon; Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd (UW-Madison); French Soldier in Silent Night; Student in La Rondine (Minnesota Opera); Upcoming: Tenor Soloist in J.S. Bach's wo gehest du hin? (Luther College Chamber Orchestra); A Young Man’s Exhortation (First Unitarian Concert Series); Alfredo in La Traviata (UW-Madison). In addition to 19th century French opera and Cole Porter standards, he holds a deep interest for novelty and humorous songs.
Evan Mitchell has been teaching voice, piano, and instrument lessons to students of all ages, varieties, and styles for the past 9 years. He has taught at the college level, specializing in music history, performance, and literacy courses, as well has holding his own private studio. He directs music ministry at Central Presbyterian Church in Eugene, and is a member of the Eugene Vocal Arts. |
