The Austrian choral conductor, Xaver Meyer, received his musical training at the University of Vienna (Ferdinand Grossmann, Hans Gillesberger, Lechthaler, Fritz Uhl, Berger-Schmölz) and attained a doctorate the Germanistik. He was chorister of the Wiener Sängerknaben.
Since then Xaver Meyer has worked, on the concert podium and as pianist, with the Wiener Sängerknaben, the Wiener Akademie-Kammerchor and the Wiener Männergesang-Vereines, and has appeared with them as conductor all over the world. With his choirs and various orchestras he has appeared in his homeland and abroad, and also in sound broadcasting and television and conducted numerous recordings.
At the Franz Schubert-Konservatorium Xaver Meyer directs the department for elementary music and ensemble directing, solo singing and art. From 1964 to 1984 he was director of the choir at the Vienna Theatre. His Bach "Choir Directing" was presented repeatedly with UE. He has appeared as a guest conductor with local and foreign ensembles (recently at the Music Academy of Jerusalem), juror in choir competitions, writer in music technical periodicals, adviser of choir directing and education seminars and as a technical adviser of the Unterrichtsministeriums (Board of Education), and has acquired himself high reputation. Since 1991 he directs the Vokalstudio which he created. In 1995 he was honoured by the Federal President with Golden Medal for his services to the Republic of Austria. |
