The Argentinean mezzo-soprano, Solange Merdinian, began her music studies at age 3 in her hometown of Cordoba, Argentina. She attended the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School as a double major in Voice and Flute (1999-2002), where she was awarded “Excellence in double Major.” In 2007 she graduated from The Juilliard School, with a Bachelor of Music in Voice, where she studied with W. Stephen Smith (2002-2007). In 2009 she graduated from Bard College Conservatory of Music's Graduate Program in Vocal Arts, the newly created program by Dawn Upshaw (2007-2009). She has also attended diverse Summer Programs such as: L’Academie Internationale d’Ete de Nice (2001, 2002, 2008), Chautauqua Institute (2003, 2004), Aspen Opera Theater Center (2005-2007), and Boston University Tanglewood Institute (2000). Her current teacher is Lorraine Nubar. She has worked with renowned artists such as Steve Blier, Dalton Baldwin, Nico Castel, Margo Garrett, Ken Merrill, Pierre Vallet and Brian Zeger among others.
In 2008 Solange Merdinian was the co-artistic director and performer of the Armenian General Benevolent Union Debut Concert at Weill Hall. Operatic performances include: Teresa II in Virgil Thompson’s, Four Saints in Three Acts at Bard College and Conservatory, Mercedes in Georges Bizet’s Carmen at Aspen Opera Theatre Center, The Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and the role of Indiana Elliot in a production of The Mother of Us All by Virgil Thompson both at the Juilliard School, and Dido, in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell with the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School
Recent performances include: Dawn Upshaw’s and Osvaldo Golijov’s: Composing Song at Zankel Hall, a solo Recital at Olin Hall at Bard College, and a shared concert at the Armenian Evangelical Church in NYC. In summer 2009 Solange Merdinian joined Bard Summerscape opera production of Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots singing the roles of Bohemienne and Dame d’honneur. Other performances include Bard College Conservatory’s premiere performance of Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg at Bard College, Conservatory, a Recital at Colby College, Maine, a Carnegie Hall performance of the program Piazza Navona, as a soloist at Alice Tully Hall with the Juilliard Chamber Orchestra and the Juilliard Choral Union, and Alto Soloist with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC in their Bach Cantata Program. Upcoming performances include recitals in NYC. She was also chosen to participate in “Joy in Singing” in 2010. |
