The Belgian horn player, Claude Maury, studied at the Conservatoire Royal in Mons where he got the highest distinctions for the modern horn and in chamber music. Then he took lessons with Francis Orval, André Vandriessche, Michel Garcin-Marrou and Hermann Baumann.
Claude Maury got his first job in the orchestra of the Opera Royal de Wallonie in 1974, then in 1976 became member of the French Belgian Radio and Television Orchestra (R.T.B.F.). In 1981 he was prize winner at the Gallay competition for natural horn in Perpignan, France and in 1984, prize-winner at another international competition for natural horn in Bad Harzburg, Germany. In 1985, he left the Radio Orchestra to become a free-lancing carrer on period instruments. Therefore, he has played on a regular basis with some of the best orchestras and ensemble playing on period instruments, among the La Petite Bande (Directors: Sigiswald Kuijken, Gustav Leonhardt), Orchestra of the 18th Century (Director: Frans Brüggen), Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (Director: Philippe Herreweghe), Les Musiciens du Louvre (Director: Marc Minkowski), Anima Eterna (Director: Jos van Immerseel), Les Arts Florissants (Director: William Christie), Opera Fuoco (Director: David Stern) and Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester). Occasionally, he also plays with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Director: Ton Koopman)), Concerto Köln, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Director: Jeanne Lamon), The English Concert (Director: Trevor Pinnock), Bach Collegium Japan (Director: Masaaki Suzuki), etc. He has recorded many solo and chamber music CD's, mainly on natural horn.
Claude Maury was Professor of Horn at Conservatoire d'Orléans (January 2008-July 2012). He is now Professor of Natural Horn at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP) (since Septemnber 2006), and Professor of Horn at Conservatoire de Versailles (since September 2012). He currently lives in Pantin. |
