The American bass-baritone, Brenton Mattox, obtained bot his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education (2015) and his Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA). During his time there, he was the graduate assistant in voice and the bass section leader at a local Presbyterian church. His Awards include: 2013 Texoma NATS Competition 4th place, Graduate Men; 2016 Amore Opera Lovers of East Texas Director’s Award.
Brenton Mattox' performances included the bass soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah and the title role of Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah. He also performed the roles of Simone in Gianni Gianni with SFA Oera (Masrch 2014), Kezal in Bartered Bride, and Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor. Hae has recently sang Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni with Opera on the Rocks. He has participated as a young artist in Red River Lyric (2015, 2017) and Russian Opera workshop (2016). His roles include Melisso in G.F. Handel's Alcina and Father in Philip Glass' Beauty and the Beast with Red River Lyric Opera (July 2017); Kochubey in Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa with Russian Opera Workshop (2016); and Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte Red River Lyric Opera (2015). Selected other roles include: Carl Olsen in Street Scene; Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Brenton Mattox is a member of both the Philadelphia Opera Chorus and the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir. He was Choral Scholar (January 2010-July 2018) and section leader (August 2018-August 2021) at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Delaware. He recentlty joined the roster of staff singers at the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He currently lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. |
