The Czech mezzo-soprano (and contralto), Libuše Márová, was trained at the Music Academy of Prague by Premysl Koci, Joséf Frydl, Stapánka Stepánová and Michael Zabejda.
Libuše Márová made her stage debut in 1965 at the Opera House of Plzen (Pilsen) as Azucena in Il Trovatore. From 1969 she was engaged at the National Theatre of Prague, where she had a great career. Abroad she appeared at the Comic Opera Berlin (as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera by Verdi and as Dulcinée in Don Quichotte by Massenet), in Amsterdam, at the Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, at the opera houses of Oslo and Bordeaux and at the Edinburgh Festival. She belonged also to the prominent Czech concert singers of her generation. On the stage she preferably took over the dramatic roles which wre suitable to her voice, whereby she impressed also as an actress. She earned artist of the USSR.
