The German baritone, Michael Mantaj, received while still a schoolboy, a thoroughgoing musical education as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen (Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows). This was also where he took his first singing lessons with Richard Brünner. He then went on to study voice with Nikolaus Hillebrand and Josef Metternich in Munich.
Besides his concert activities as a recital and oratorio singer, Michael Mantaj has also been seen and heard in a variety of productions on the opera stage, portraying such roles as Moralès in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Guglielmo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Guldensack in Werner Egk's Die Zaubergeige and Falke in Johann Strauss' Fledermaus.
Michael Mantaj has always had a keen interest in ensemble singing. Since 2000, he has been a member of the internationally renowned vocal ensemble Die Singphoniker. The six-man group has meanwhile released more than 30 CD's and is regularly invited to take part in prominent festivals throughout the world. Since January 21, he has been a member of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks. |
