The American bass-baritone, Jesse Malgieri, and studied at Indiana University in Bloomington. He has won awards and recognition for his artistry from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the Florida District (encouragement award) the Gerda Lissner Foundation, Chateauville Foundation, Sarasota Opera, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He also won First Prize in the Indianapolis Musical Competition.
Jesse Malgieri is an internationally respected singer and performer. He made his New York City debut as Schaunard in La Boheme with the Martha Cardona Opera Theater. In summer 2010, he was a young artist at Central City Opera in Colorado, where he performed Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi and was featured in the scenes program and as a solo recitalist. With Indiana University Opera, he appeared as Brooke in Little Women, Der Sprecher in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Joe in The Most Happy Fella, Antonio in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, and The Bonz in Madama Butterfly, among many others. Thus far, he has appeared with the opera companies of Santa Fe, North Carolina, Central City, Sarasota, and Fire Island, as well as the Castleton Festival, Chelsea Opera, and SongFest, among many others.
Jesse Malgieri has enjoyed a close association with the late Maestro Lorin Maazel, at whose invitation he made his European debut in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West at the Palacio de la Opera, in A Coruña, Spain. Lorin Maazel subsequently invited him to reprise the role of Happy with the Castleton Festival in Virginia and with the Münchner Philharmoniker.
Highlights of previous appearences include the inaugural Fire Island Opera Festival, where he portrayed Thomas in Gluck's L’arbre enchante, last performed for Marie Antoinette at Versailles in 1775. With New York City's historic Amore Opera, Malgieri has performed many leading roles, such as Valentin in Faust, Silvio in Pagliacci, and Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale. As a guest of the Colgate University Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Ryan Endris, he was the featured soloists for Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs and the Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass.
Jesse Malgieri was recently the Marc and Eva Stern Fellow at SongFest in Los Angeles, where he collaborated with some of today’s finest vocalists, composers and collaborative pianists. As part of his Fellowship, Jesse was presented in recital with world renowned pianist Martin Katz and composer/pianist John Musto.
Upcoming in 2015, Jesse Malgieri lends his voice to the opening gala of the brand new Archbishop Fulton Sheen Center on Bleeker Street in New York City with Amore Opera. Then on to Raleigh for North Carolina Opera's production of Madama Butterfly, immediately followed by his role debut as Marcello in La Bohème, with Amore at the Sheen Center, running through the New Year. He currently lives in Manhattan, New York. |
