The Mainzer Figuralchor was founded in 1979 by a group of enthusiastic students from Main involved in the performance of chamber music of all eras. They launched the project with "Musica Figuralis", which describes the Renaissance complex interplay of equal voices. The name of the ensemble was born: "Mainzer Figuralchor". Together with the young students, the ensemble has developed over the years an experienced, homogeneous sound, and is now consists of professional musicians, skilled laymen and music students.
The repertoire of the choir includes sacred and secular a cappella works of all styles and periods, as well as oratorios. A particular emphasis is on regular performance of the works of J.S. Bach, from which the concert series "Mainzer Bachwochenenden" has developed. In addition, the choir is always intensely involved with contemporary works. Concert tours led by the choir to Germany, Italy, France and Russia. Numerous productions for radio and television accompany the concert activity. In addition, they have done a selection of CD recordings.
The Mainzer Figuralchor has won several prestigious competitions and co-operated with major choral conductors like Helmuth Rilling and Wolfram Wehnert. Since its founding, the artistic director of the choir is Stefan Weiler. |
