The Canadian soprano, Marie Magistry, holds a master’s in voice from McGill University and is continuing to hone her artistry with soprano Lyne Fortin.Soprano. She has received support from Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and participated in international performance internships in the United States, Canada, and France.
The distinctive coloration of her voice together with her musical intelligence and refined interpretations have allowed Marie Magistry to carve out a select place for herself on Canada’s music scene. She has also made appearances at some of the great concert halls and music festivals of the USA, South America, and France.
Marie Magistry's clear yet warm soprano is suited to a varied repertoire ranging from Renaissance to contemporary music. She is in high demand, regularly collaborating with such high-profile ensembles as Les Violons du Roy (Director: Bernard Labadie), Studio de Musique Ancienne (SMAM), Arion Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Caprice (Director: Matthias Maute), Les Boréades, Clavecin en concert, Les Idées heureuses (Director: (Director: Geneviève Soly)), I Musici, and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Her passion for contemporary music has led to her involvement in a number of premieres with the likes of SMCQ Contemporary Music Society and the chamber choir VivaVoce.
Marie Magistry recently appeared with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in Gabriel Fauré's Requiem and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Les Violons du Roy in Carissimi’s Jephte, the Lamèque Baroque Festival in George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus, Les Boréades in Pascal Colasse’s Cantiques spirituels, Studio de Musique Ancienne in motets by Campra and Mondonville, Les Idées heureuses in Christoph Graupner's cantatas, Clavecin en concert in Lieder by Schubert and Haydn, I Musici in Palmeri’s Misa a Buenos Aires, and the Appassionata Chamber Orchestra in Magnificats by J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and John Rutter. Her upcoming solo schedule includes J.S. Bach's cantatas at Le Festival Bach de Montréal, Campra’s Requiem with Arion Baroque Orchestra, and a trip to Carnegie Hall to perform Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Les Violons du Roy.
In addition to numerous radio appearances on CBC and SRC, Marie Magistry can be heard on the Atma, Naxos, Analekta, and Sony labels in recordings that have received numerous awards, including a Juno in 2009. Other recognition includes a number of Opus Awards from Conseil québécois de la musique. She currently lives in Montreal, Quebec. |
