The American lyric soprano, Sydney Macnabb, attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2015 to 2019 and earned her Bachelor degrees in Music and Psychology while studying under Dr. Marc Callahan. Since August 2020, she studies for her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Opera at the Peabody Institute with the baritone William Sharp. Recent projects include the role of Despina in Peabody Opera’s production of W.A. Mozart's Cosí Fan Tutte in Fall 2020, which was her Peabody Opera debut.
Sydney Macnabb is fascinated with the effect of music on a person’s mind and emotional state, and works to blend her knowledge of both fields into her performances. Recent past operatic roles include Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (MMF, 2019), Susanna (cover)/Bridesmaid in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (MMF, 2019), Student 2 in Der Jasager (UNC Opera 2019), and Sopranino in La Rondine (Oberlin in Italy 2018). She also performs in concert settings, such as her role as a guest soloist for Asbury United Methodist church in early 2020 performing George Frideric Handel oratorio, as well as a member of Carolina Concert Choir from 2015 to 2019. She is currently employed as a cantor at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church.
In recent years, Sydney Macnabb placed in the top three singers of her division at NC NATS competition, and competed through the regional level. She was also a part of the cast of UNC Opera’s Der Jasager in Spring of 2019, which took first place in Undergraduate Division II of the National Opera Association 2018-2019 production competition. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland. |
