The Scottish baritone, Laurens Macklon, was first educated in The Netherlands and then studied Classics at the University of Cambridge. He is currently studying singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Iain Paton and is the recipient of an RCS scholarship.
Whilst at Cambridge Laurens Macklon was a choral scholar at the choir of Sidney Sussex College, singing three services a week and performing tour concerts at venues such as Westminster Abbey and the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica. On stage, he has sung the roles of Samuel in Pirates of Penzance, Oceanus in The Cambridge Greek Play, Figaro, Don Giovanni in W.A. Mozart Opera Scenes, Malcolm in Rossini Opera Scenes, the Count, and Papageno in RCS Opera Workshop. His oratorio work includes J.S. Bach’s cantatas BWV 9, BWV 90, BWV 116 & BWV 183, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, the Requiems of Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Duruflé and Verdi, and Franz Liszt’s Via Crucis. He has performed as a soloist with the Holy Trinity Church Choir of Stratford-on-Avon at the Stratford Ontario Summer Music Festival (Selected Songs by Roger Quilter). In recital he has performed Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe & Liederkreis Op. 24, and songs by G. Fauré, Benjamin Britten, Quilter and John Jacob Niles. Upcoming concerts include a recital of Dichterliebe at the Wonderfeel festival (The Netherlands), a recital of Scottish Art Song at the Cathedral of the Isles, and the role of MC in Massenet's Cendrillon. |
