The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Gianna Lunardi, grew up in Winterthur and received her first musical training there with violin, singing and piano lessons. At the age of 16, she was intensely preoccupied with music and moved to Sweden, where she focused on her musical activities for the first time. After completing her Matura, she was accepted into the preparatory studies with David Thorner in Winterthur and then began her singing studies with Jane Thorner at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in summer 2008, which she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Music - Pedagogy in summer 2013. Because of her outstanding achievements in the educational field, she was honored with the Werner und Berti Alter-Stiftung Prize.
After graduating, Gianna Lunardi worked with Raymond Connell (London) on her vocal development. In addition, the first engagements followed. She made her debut as Hermione in Paul Suits' chamber opera Die Göttin im Kater (world premiere) in autumn 2013. In the winter of 2014-2015 she earned headlines as Prince Orlowsky in Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus at the Theater Arth (November 2014-March 2015). She demonstrated her comic talent and versatility as the 2nd Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Schlossoper Hallwyl in summer 2015 and as Alice Bean in the musical Titanic on the Melide floating stage (production by the Walenseebühne Ticino, summer 2016). In the Baroque pasticcio Ariadne – eine Frau sieht rot (Oper mal anders, Lucerne, summer 2017), she was allowed to work as Oenone with specialists in the Baroque field and in summer 2018 the newly created role of the baronessa in the expanded Zaubergeige by Offenbach interpret (Operetta giò’n Plazzetta Ardez).
After a break of several years, Gianna Lunardi resumed her studies in autumn 2017 in order to best complement the knowledge and experience she had acquired to date. At the same time as studying for a master’s degree with Judith Schmid at HSLU Hochschule Luzern, she was happy to get to know the theater operations of an official house. At the Theater Luzern she appeared on stage as Elfe in Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust (spring 2018) and as Gianna in Im Amt für Todesangelegenheite by Klaus von Heydenaber (autumn 2018). In 2019 she also completed her second master’s degree with distinction and returned to Lake Zurich for 2019-2020 Oprella production of William Walton's The Bear she embodies the spirited, grieving widow Lady Popova. In winter 2019-2020 she flew to the moon as Stella / Ella in Frau Luna by Paul Lincke at Stadttheater Sursee.
Gianna Lunardi is characterized by her Italian timbre, a strong expression and her striving for vocal development. She deliberately places her work as an interpreter at the center of her artistic creation. Diversity and flexibility in their stylistic challenges are evidence of this. She is a member of various formations and cultivates a great stylistic diversity. As a member of the Vokalensembles Zürich (Director: Peter Siegwart), she took part in various projects, including the Königsfeld Festival and the musical theater Die Reise nach Comala (world premiere in 2017) by Germán Toro Pérez. With the Zürcher Sing-Akademie (Director: Timothy Brown) she was allowed to work with well-known conductors such as David Zinman, Roger Norrington and Charles Dutoit. Her own vocal quartet Syrinx cultivates the combination of romantic repertoire with the Broadway style of the 20s of the 20th century. Chamber music projects in the Lieder area with the pianist Seraina Braun and other combinations, such as with guitar or saxophone, complete the artist's musical work. The highlights of her concert activities as a soloist were appearances in the Tonhalle Zürich, among others in Beat Furrer‘s FAMA and in the Hayden Oratorio. She currently lives in Zürich, Switzerland. |
