The Austrian baritone and former boy soprano, Josef Luftensteiner, received his first voice training as a member of the Wiener Sängerknaben (1968-1973). He studied double-bass and later singing at the Bruckner-Konservatorium in Linz and at the Musikhochschule Wien. He has won prizes in several competitions.
Josef Luftensteiner and has given concerts and recitals at home and abroad since 1981. He was a member of the ensemble of the Wiener Kammeroper and the Oper Graz, where he appeared in the title role of Il barbiere di Siviglia, as Schaunard in La Bohème, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Homonay in Der Zigeunerbaron and in Boccaccio. He was seen in the title role of the operetta Der fidele Bauer in the Stadttheater Bad Hall and in Berndorf. At the operetta summer in Kufstein, he has already performed as Prinz Sergius Wladimir in Die Zirkusprinzessin and at the Musikfestival Steyr (the waiter Leopold Brandmeyer in Benatzky’s Weißen Rössl in summer 2015.) and others, such as Peron in the musical Evita on stage.
Josef Luftensteiner has been a member of the Volksoper Wien since 1987-1988 and has been seen there as Papageno and Sprecher in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Josef in Wiener Blut, Dr. Cajus in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Gouverneur in La Périchole, Montschi in Ein Walzertraum, Pappacoda in Eine Nacht in Venedig, Großfürst in Der Zarewitsch, Boni in Die Csárdásfürstin, Vicomte Cascada and Baron Zeta in Die lustige Witwe, Leopold in Im weißen Rössl, von Henrici in Der Bettelstudent, Max Dettweiler and Admiral von Schreiber in The Sound of Music, Anton Schnappauf in Der Evangelimann, Petruccio in Gasparone, Mauleselmann in Die Kluge, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Dancaïro in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Yamadori in Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Alcindor in La Bohème, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Marullo in Rigoletto, Jäger in Rusalka, Oberst Pickering in My Fair Lady and Geheimrat Graf Schopp in König Karotte. In the current season he once again portrays Gefängnisdirektor Frank and Geheimrat Graf Schopp.
On May 30, 2005, Josef Luftensteiner was awarded the title of Kammersänger. |
