The Portuguese baritone, choral conductor and music teacher, Gustavo Lopes, completed in 2013 a degree in Choral Conducting and Musical Training at the Musical na Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon (2013-2015), where he studied with Cristina Brito da Cruz, Clara Coelho, Paulo Lourenço, Carlos Garcia, Francisco Cardoso, Vasco Azevedo, among others. That year, he enrolled in the Masters in Music Education, which he completed in 2015 at the same institution, under the guidance of Francisco Cardoso. He also studied Musical Pedagogy at the Kodály Institute in Hungary (2014), on an Erasmus basis, having worked there on areas of Musical Training, Choral Conducting, Piano, Educational Pedagogy, Methodology, Children's Musical Pedagogy, among others. He also participated as a guest speaker at the “X APEM National Meeting” in 2016. He also attened course in Piano Jazz at Hot Club de Portugal (2015-2016).
Gustavo Lopes is a founding member of the Ensemble Vocal Desafinados. In 2015 he participated as a soloist in the opera Banksters, by Nuno Côrte-Real, with a presentation at the Centro Cultural de Belém. He frequently works with the Officium Ensemble and the Coro Ricercare, both under the direction of Maestro Pedro Teixeira.
Gustavo Lopes has served as Professor at Escola Profissional da Metropolitana (EPM) (since 2013); Professor of Musical Formation and Choir at Conservatório de Música da Metropolitana in Lisbon (CMML) (since 2013); Professor at Academia de Música do Monte Abrãao (Januar 2016-July 2020); Professor at Coro da Universidade de Lisboa (January 2016-July 2018); Professor at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra (ANSO) in Lisbon (September 2017-September 2021). |
