The Dutch counte-tenor, Sigurd van Lommel, studied French at the University of Amsterdam. After a career in the theatre, he took singing lessons with, among others, Christopher Kale and master-classes with Andreas Scholl. He has been studying with Paula de Wit for several years now.
Sigurd van Lommel has been active as a freelance singer since 1991. has given concerts in the Netherlands and abroad as a soloist and in various ensembles and can be heard as a soloist on various classical CD recordings, including the title role in George Frideric Handel's opera Rinaldo with the ensemble Hypothésis (Solstice 2005), and Il Virtuoso by Adriano Banchieri (Tactus 2004), the most recent of which includes work by Antonio Caldara performed with Ensemble La Silva (Brilliant Classics). Together with Jelma van Amersfoort (lute & classical guitars) he forms the duo La Chartreuse de Valbonne, which a CD with early romantic songs was alreadt released, “La Bonbonnière Lyrique”. In addition to classical music, Sigurd can be seen and heard in theater and cabaret performances for which he also writes material. He currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and works as Project Manager Tailored Research and Training at IBFD Lawyer & Law Firm (since 2004). |
