George Livings (Tenor)

Born: USA

The American tenor, George Livings, attended Julliard School of Music where he appeared in several opera productions. These were followed by performances with opera companies in Boston, Lake George, The Aspen Festival, Turnau Opera Players, and the Metropolitan Opera Studio. He continued his studies in New York under a Lucretia Bori Scholarship awarded by the Metropolitan Opera Company.

After his studies, George Livings performed in opera houses and festivals around the USA and Canada, including the Metropolita opera in New York (1983), Spoleto Festival (1978), Kennedy Center Terrace Theater in Washington DC (Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri, January-February, 1985), Canadian Opera Company (Count Almaviva in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, April 1978). On April 24, 1976, he created the title role of Poe in Dominick Argento's opera The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe with Minnesota Opera Company at O'Shaughnessy Auditorium, St. Paul, Minnesota (Conductor: Philip Brunelle).

George Livings recorded Giuseppe Verdi's Manzoni Requiem, with Pennsylvania State University Choirs & Symphony Orchestra conducted by Raymond Brown ((Helfrich Recording Labs; recorded live on May 15, 1971 at Schwab Auditorium); Jack Beeson's Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines, a romantic comedy in music, with members Kansas City Philharmonic conducted by Russell Patterson (Albany Music, 1976); George Frideric Handel's The Messiah with Handel and Haydn Society conducted by Thomas Dunn (Advent 1977); Francis Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Manuel Rosenthal (Texaco-Metropolitan Opera Radio Network; Live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera House, New York City, December 10, 1983).
