Brian Link (Counter-tenor)

Born: USA

The American counter-tenor, Brian Link, studied at Indiana University School of Music (late 1980's).

Brian Link is a member of the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers. He has performed internationally with choruses, orchestras and in solo recital. As alto soloist and section leader with the Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys in Indianapolis, he was featured soloist in works of J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Purcell and others. As a counter-tenor soloist, Brian has performed G.F. Handel’s Messiah with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, the Indiana University Baroque Orchestra and the Twin Cities’ own Lyra Baroque Orchestra. Locally, Brian was a frequent performer with the Ex Machina Baroque Opera company, singing the roles of Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, and the namesakes in Cavalli’s Giasone and G.F. Handel’s Giulio Cesare. He has had frequent solo engagements with major American early music groups. With Twin Cities plucked-string player Phillip Rukavina, he is part of Duo Barbi, which has likewise performed all over the country.

Brian Link has sung (and still sings) as a baritone, tenor, and countertenor. He now lives in Minneapolis, where he sings with several local churches and ensembles. He is currently alto soloist and section leader at the church of St. Louis, King of France in St. Paul. As a director, he has led the Renaissance chorus The Waltham Abbey Singers, Baroque chamber group Ensemble Polaris, and his most recent venture, Collegium V, a five-member, all-male group.

Brian Link can be heard on recordings released by Koch International Classics and Meridian Records.
