The Austrian baritone, Georg Lehner, completed oboe studies and played oboe professionally for several years with the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Philharmoniker. He then changed to singing, and studied at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna under Professor KS Hilde Rössel-Majdan, and Professor Walter Berry.
Engagements as an opera, operetta, Lieder and oratorio singer have led Georg Lehner to sing as lyrical baritone then to Japan, the USA, South America and various European countries. His repertoire to include, in addition to French and German literature, especially the operas of W.A. Mozart (The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Die Zauberflöte and La Finta Giardiniera). In 2003 he sang the role of Valentin in Charles Gounod's Faust and the villain in Tales of Hoffmann by Offenbach, Johannes Brahms' Requiem with the Wiener Symphoniker in Vienna, Magnificat (BWV 243) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach in Dresden and Vienna and at New Year's concerts in Florida.
In June 2004 Georg Lehner made his successful debut at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival (USA) with Schubert's Schwanengesang and Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe. It was followed by the Symphony No. 9 by L.v. Beethoven in Japan (Nagoya) and the Italian Songbook by Hugo Wolf with the Melker Stiftskonzerten. In 2004-2005 season he sang J.S. Bach's Kreuzstabkantate (BWV 56) and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) in Vienna, L.v. Beethoven's Christus am Ölberg in Dresden, J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) as Jesus in Bochum and Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah in Eisenstadt. Two more recitals followed at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival (USA). In 2005-2006 season he sang the music teacher in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss at the Tokyo State Opera and the main role of Pentheus in the first performance of Pentheus by Johanna Doderer in Vienna. |
