The German contralto, tWiebke Lehmkuhl, attended during her school years attended master-classes, concerts and won numerous awards as a flutist (modern flute and Baroque flute). She received her first singing lessons in 2002 with Ulla Groenewold in Hamburg. Two years later she started her singing studies at the Musikhochschule with Hanna Schwarz. Besides these two major teachers, she complemented her training by attending master-classes with Klesie Kelly and Ingeborg Danz. In the W.A. Mozart Year 2006, she was awarded the Mozart Prize of the City of Hamburg.
Wiebke Lehmkuhl quickly became an internationally sought after concert and oratorio singer, with performances at the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Rheingau Musikfestival, Bachwoche Stuttgart, NDR Hannover, Festival "La Folle Journée" in Nantes and in Tokyo. In Shanghai, she sang, among other things, the Chinese premiere of Felix Mendelssohn's Walpurgisnacht. She has worked with conductors like Philippe Jordan, Riccardo Chailly, Alessandro de Marchi, Reinhard Goebel and Andreas Spering. After guest engagements at the Opernhaus Kiel, at the Hamburgischen Staatsoper and the Staatstheater, most of them already during her studies, Wiebke Lehmkuhl entered the 2008-2009 season her first permanent engagement at the Opernhaus Zürich. Here she has taken part in the revival of Wilson's Ring conducted by Philippe Jordan (Erda, Erste Norn, Schwertleite), as the Third Lady in W.A. Mozart'S Zauberflöte, George Frideric Handel's Agrippina and performed J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) conducted by Marc Minkowski and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) conducted by Riccardo Chailly. |
