The Belgian soprano/mezzo-soprano and singing teacher, Katelijne [Katheline] Van Laethem, gained the higher diploma singing at the Lemmensinstituut in leuven, and studied also privately with the teachers Margreet Honig and Diane Forlano. During her studies she came in contact with Paul Van Nevel, with whom she co-operated for sixteen years as a singer in his Huelgas Ensemble.
In the meantime Katelijne Van Laethem has appeared with many other ensembles and orchestras, mostly specialised in early music. But she is also interested in performance of contemporary music. So she can be heard with the Oxalys Ensemble in Lieder of Dmitri Shostakovich. She has formed a highly esteemed duo with Jan Vermeulen with whom she interprets Lieder of Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and recently the late romantic repertoire of Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. |
