Ensemble La Dolcessa (Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: Germany

The Ensemble 'La DoIcezza' consists, in essence, of a small string group, which forms a tonal basis in collaboration with singers and wind instruments. The ensemble's name is derived from a text by Giovanni Battista Doni from 1640, according to which, alongside the "adaptability of the viols, the dignity of the harp, the power of the trumpet, the vivacity of the fife, the melancholy of the flute and the touching quality of the cornett", and particularly "the sweetness (la dolcezza) of the lute", the violin should be excellent. The interpretative basis is the recollection of the origin of Baroque instrumental music as emancipation from the vocal art of the Renaissance. The members of the Ensemble were mainly trained at the Bremen Academy for Early Music and today work as freelance specialists in the 17th and 18th century repertoire.
