Margarita Kyriaki (Soprano)

Born: September 23, 1942 - Athens, Greece

The Greek soprano, Margarita Kyriaki, began her training at Miltiades Vithinos in Athens. She attended the Wiener Musikhochschule, where her teachers were Berti Mandl, Josef Witt and Hilde Zadek.

Margarita Kyriaki made her stage debut in 1964 at the Theater of Klagenfurt as Pamina in Zauberflöte. She then had a successful career at the Staatsoper and at the Volksoper in Vienna. She also appeared in Athens, at the opera houses of Essen, Kassel, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, Zürich and Basel, at Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, at the Seattle Opera and at the Bayreuth Festival, where she sang in 1970 as Freia in Rheingold and one of the flower girls in Parsifal. Her repertoire for the stage was extensive and included mainly lyric soprano roles, including works by contemporary composers. In 1970 she paricipated at the Theater of Graz in the premiere of the opera Die Lederköpfe by R. Weishappel. In concert she also proved herself as a gifted interpreter of a comprehensive repertoire.
