The American soprano, poet, voice teacher and opera director, Sue Ellen (Suzie) Kuzma, graduated from the Naew England Conservatory of Music (NEC) in Boston.
During the 1970's, Sue Ellen Kuzma was a member of the Boston Musica Viva and the Cantata Singers. She has performed as a soloist at Alice Tully Hall in New York City, Boston's Symphony Hall, the Berkshire Theatre Festival and with the Portaland Symphony Orchestra and the Handel and Haydn Society. In the mid 1970's she founded and directed Opera-To-Go, a professional quartet of singers and a pianist (other members: mezzo-soprano Diana Cole, tenor James Broussard, baritone Mark Aliapoulios, pianist Margaret Ulmer), which performed excerpts from operas, mostly for children. During the late 1980's-early 1990's, she was a featured reader with the New Opera Theatre Ensemble for their Living Music and Poetry Forum, transforming poetry into song. She recorded W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutte, directed by Peter Sellars and conducted by Craig Smith with Wiener Symphoniker (Decca DVD, 1991).
Sue Ellen Kuzma taught at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. She has a voice studio for adult singers looking for a voice teacher or coach who has had theater and opera background, who loves to make body connections to singing, i.e. Alexander Technique, yoga, dance. The connective breath, the imagination, the acute ear, all a part of the technique of singing, be it songs, arias, jazz, musical theater. Authentic expression is the aim.
