The Polish mezzo-soprano, Katarzyna Kuncio, studied voice at the Music Academy in Poznan and the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna (under Walter Berry), from which she graduated cum laude. She also attended master-classes with Brigitte Fassbaender, Gundula Janowitz, Theo Adam and Ernst Haefliger. In 1997 she won 1st Prize at the Schubert Singing Competition in Osaka, Japan.
While still a student, Katarzyna Kuncio performed in several productions at the Wiener Kammeroper and Wiener Volksoper. Her repertoire includes inter alia Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Olga in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Nicklausse in Offenbach Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Hänsel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Anna in Berlioz's Les Troyens, Octavian in R. Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, Mercédès in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Orestes in Offenbach La belle Hélène.
From 1998 to 2004 she was engaged at Staadttheater Bremerhaven. Since the 2004-2005 season she has been a member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she has successfully portrayed, among other roles, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Annio in Mozart’s: La clemenza di Tito. Her roles in 2012-2013 season include: the 3rd Maid in R. Strauss’ Elektra, Grimgerde in Wagner’s Die Walküre, Hänsel, Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto, Mère Jeanne in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, Ein Page in R. Strauss' Salome and Laura in Verdi Luisa Miller. |
