The German soprano, Renate Krahmer, studied singing with Professor Eva Schubert-Hofmann at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar from 1957 to 1962, where her diploma included a teaching qualification. She was also a pupil of Rita Meinl-Weise.
Renate Krahmer made her debut in 1961 at the State Theatre of Magdeburg. From 1961 she worked at the theatre in Meiningen and was and from 1962 was subsequently engaged as coloratura soprano at the Landestheater Halle/Saale. She sang there Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro as her first role. In 1965 she was awarded the Händel prize. Since 1965 she was employed as a guest by the State Opera of Berlin, in which she participated in 1969 in the premiere of the opera Lanzelot by Paul Dessau. Her technique allowed her to master important coloratura roles, such as Queen of the Night in the Zauberflöte, Konstanze in Entführung aus dem Serail and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss. She worked with Walter Felsenstein, Götz Friedrich, Joachim Hertz, Ruth Berghaus and Erhard Fischer, among others. Renate Krahmer's busy opera, concert and recital career included work with the conductors Rudolf Kempe, Hans Swarowsky, Vaclav Neumann, Otmar Suitner, Kurt Masur, Herbert Kegel, Martin Flämig (Kreuzchor Dresden) and Hans-Joachim Rotzsch (Thomanerchor Leipzig).
Renate Krahmer performed gladly on the stage as in the concert hall contemporary works. At the Annual Händel Festival in Halle she was characterised as experienced interpreter of the works of this master. She appeared as a guest at the National Operas of Warsaw and Prague, at the State Opera of Vienna and in Lausanne.
