Helena Köhne (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto)

Born: Germany

The German mezzo-soprano and contralto, Helena Köhne, first studied at the Hamburg Conservatory and then moved to the Universität der Künste in Berlin (Professor KS Class Jutta Schlegel), where in 2004 she received her diploma. She expanded her studies by taking part in the International Singing Seminar at Burg Beeskow and the International Bachakademie in Stuttgart with Ingeborg Danz (directed by Helmuth Rilling).

Helena Köhne appeared as Fortunata in Satyricon by Bruno Maderna (Berlin premiere of "Neuen Opernbühne Berlin", 2003), as Karilda in Ariadne auf Kreta by George Frideric Handel (Musikfestival Oper Oder Spree, 2001) and as Lucilla in Seidenen Leiter by G. Rossini (Opera Or Spree, 2002). In 2004 she sang in the premiere of Friendly Fire (Klaus Arp) as Sue at the Neuköllner Oper and was also heard there in 2007 in the opera Aleko by Sergei Rachmaninov.

In March 2008, at the Theater Brandenburg Helena Köhne played a role in the premiere of Kleist by Rainer Rubbert. In 2001-2003 she was a scholarship holder of the Kaminski Foundation, Munich. Since 2005, she is supported vocally by Ruthilde Engert.

Helena Köhne is a concert singer in oratorios, and in June 2004 she received the award of the "Hanns Eisler Prize" for interpretation of contemporary music.
